Are you looking forward to the end of this crazy year? How ready are you for the changes to come in 2021? No matter if you’ve thrived or just survived in 2020, we wanted to have a year-end round-up of what we’ve been seeing with businesses out there. So grab your holiday drink and turn the volume up as we put 2020 in the rearview mirror and take a look forward to what changes we should expect in the new year.
In this week’s podcast, Canada’s #1 Business Coach, Kent Boehm from Nine Business Group, joins Murray and Samantha for a holiday drink as we say good-bye to 2020. He also gives us some insight on what he’s seen in his coaching practice this year.
During 2020, Kent has seen everything from massive digital transformation to complete avoidance of economic issues. We discuss his suggestion that the rate of change in the world – through a variety of factors like economic crises and pandemics – is shortening to 5-7 years. The knowledge that planning your goals and targets is even more important than ever. And the planning cycle he suggests might surprise you.
Tune in to discover a few fundamental things we can do for ourselves and our businesses as we look to 2021. Kent chats about:
- Creating a three- to five-year planning horizon for the business. We set the goals and objectives based on the needs and wants of the business. Essentially, we have a clear picture of where we want to be and adjust accordingly for the economic cycles.
- The importance of having systems and processes that are strong enough, whether it be financially or culturally, to sustain any shifts in the economic landscape.
- How applying “pragmatic optimism” will help businesses weather the uncertainty while not getting overwhelmed by it.
- Company culture has never been more critical. Businesses need strong core values. They are really about who you are as a corporation, what’s important to you. When they’re strong enough, you can hire and fire by them. If you have a strong internal culture, you have the ability to attract and retain the right employees because they fit your ideology. If you have that, you can do anything.
